Virginia’s Department of Game & Inland Fisheries (DGIF) would like you to try out a day (or weekend) of fishing. They are sure you’ll be hooked! I’m pretty sure the pun is intended.
For folks over the age of 16 to fish legally in Virginia, they need to have purchased an annual fishing license. But for one weekend a year, everyone is encouraged to try out fishing for free.
This year’s Free Fishing Days are June 5-7, 2020. No fishing license required.
Around the state, DGIF will be hosting events aimed at teaching people how to fish including providing loaner rods, tackle, bait, and fishing instruction. More info on those events, visit the DGIF website.
