Leesburg Celebrates Independence Day

The Town of Leesburg will host its 28th annual Independence Day Celebration on Wednesday, July 4, 2018.

The festivities will begin with the Independence Day Parade at 10:00 a.m. The parade will start at Ida Lee Park, travel down King Street through the historic downtown, and conclude at Fairfax Street.

King Street will close to through-traffic at 9:30 a.m. in preparation for the parade.  Downtown streets will re-open at approximately 11:30 a.m.

At 9:45 a.m., prior to the parade, the American Originals Fife and Drum Corps will perform at the intersection of King and Market streets. This traditional military-style music group adds a patriotic sound to the parade and is a favorite among parade viewers. Plan to arrive downtown before the street closures to hear the fifes and drums before the parade kicks off.

In the evening, the fun continues at Ida Lee Park. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. Be sure to arrive early and grab a spot on the lawn for a full night of fun, food, and great music. At 6:30 p.m., Party of Four will take the stage, covering 80’s and 90’s hits with their soaring four-part vocal harmonies. A full food court will be onsite with funnel cakes, ice cream, hot dogs, and other goodies.

The region’s largest fireworks display will light up the sky beginning at 9:30 p.m. Choreographed to patriotic music, this light show is not to be missed.

Parking is available at the interior lots off Ida Lee Drive and the festival field parking off King Street. Town of Leesburg staff will work hard to ensure that as many vehicles as possible are parked in the park, so attendees are asked to be patient while waiting to enter and exit. The Town reminds our guests to use designated crosswalks if walking to the park.

Coolers and large bags are permitted but will be checked at gate entrances. Pets, alcohol, and personal fireworks (including sparklers) are not permitted. In the event of rain, fireworks will be rescheduled for July 5th at 9:30 p.m. No other activities will be rescheduled.

On the day of the event, please check the Town of Leesburg Facebook page (www.facebook.com/LeesburgVirginia) and Twitter account (@TownofLeesburg) for weather updates.
